Seismic Mitigation of a Historic Masonry Building
This work presents an analysis of different proposals of rehabilitation of a masonry building, built around the beginning of the XX century for public schools, in the highest seismic risk zone of Argentine; and which was closed down after Mendoza`s Earthquake in 1985. The building has masonry walls of artisanal ceramic bricks and wood-framed roof but it does not have lateral ties. Currently, it...
متن کاملStatic Analysis of Masonry Infilled R.C.Frame With &Without Opening Including Soft Storey of Symmetric Building
Abstract: Masonry infill is considered as a non-structural element in all type of buildings where masonry use. But, masonry infill walls are mainly used to increase initial stiffness and strength of reinforced concrete (RC) frame buildings. This Open First storey is also termed as “Soft Storey”. The upper storeys have brick infilled wall panels with various opening percentage in it. In many cit...
متن کاملNondestructive Evaluation: Structural Performance of Masonry
Masonry is one of the world’s most durable construction materials. Masonry structures can remain in service for hundreds or even thousands of years. Masonry structures often outlive their designers, their original design documents, and their original functions. When historic masonry structures are evaluated for preservation, adaptive use, or additions, there are numerous questions that may aris...
متن کاملEnhancing Performance of Infill Masonry With Skin reinforcement Subjected To Cyclic Load
Masonry infill has been widely used as building material due to its cost effectiveness and availability. The failure of these masonry infill walls during the past earthquakes have underscored the importance of ensuring the safety of the infill walls when it is subjected to lateral loads. In-plane and out of plane failures have been observed in many reinforced concrete framed building with maso...
متن کاملModal Analysis of Masonry Structures
This paper presents a new numerical tool for evaluating the vibration frequencies and mode shapes of masonry buildings in the presence of cracks. The algorithm has been implemented within the NOSA-ITACA code, which models masonry as a nonlinear elastic material with zero tensile strength. Some case studies are reported, and the differences between linear and nonlinear behaviour highlighted.
